This poem is for all those who have to stay away from the one they love, in the name of duty responsibility or any other reason. Parting from someone whom you want to stay with forever, is difficult but sometimes that’s how life is. You just have to wait until you can meet again.
Funny how you realize how much you love a person when you have to say goodbye.
I wait for you with abated breath,
A spring in my step, a twinkle in my eye,
My excitement hard to contain,
Minutes crawl like hours…
The house is cleaned, the flowers arranged,
The table is laid, the food is made,
My clothes are pressed, my hair is done,
I glance at the clock, is it working?
I see the headlights, I hear your steps,
The doorbell rings-twice-that’s you!
My heart skips a beat, my joy spills over,
You’re here.
Let me look at you, let me talk to you,
Let me listen to your stories, let me sit by your side,
Let me wake the whole night long, let me hold you,
Let me know you’re here, let me be by your side…
Morning comes, I watch you asleep,
Tired from your travels, you rest in peaceful slumber,
My heart is content,
You’re here.
Days pass like speeding hours, my heart heavier by each day,
That you will be gone before long,
I am painfully aware-
And I must begin my wait again…

Beautifully expressed in words. Yes, it’s sweet sorrow, but maybe more sorrow than its sweet 🙂

Thanks Mitadaur for commenting. I totally agree with you. It’s not as sweet as Shakespeare had us believe😊

You do a great job here of bringing to life that experience of waiting and then the joy of being rewarded by the presence of someone you love 🙂
