Won the Certificate of Outstanding Performance for this poem. The topic given was : If I Was a Cloud.

If I were a cloud,
Cirrus I’d be…
Wisps of white, soft; not loud.
On clear blue skies, wild and free,
The one you’d see, would be me…

If I were a cloud,
Thundering Nimbus I could ne’er be,
Or round Cumulus, drifting in a crowd,
I’d be the one, you’d long to see,
In my bosom, the promise of a fine day, I’d bring with me…

If I were a cloud,
I’d travel far and wide; no boundaries to shun,
Dark despairs of gloom, I’d banish away; happiness avowed,
On a canvas vast, a ‘tuft of hair’ you’d see or a ‘mare’s tail’ on the run,
An artist’s stroke, delicate streaks, silky sheen; I’d be the one.

If I were a cloud,
I’d don the colors of the golden sun,
Not for me, the modest white, the dark grey shroud,
But, hues of yellow, orange, mauve, and crimson,
A palette bright, flaming tones, you’d watch me stun…

If I were a cloud, I’d watch over you all the while,
From my perch up high, up in the sky,
And when you look up and smile,
I’d know, its ‘coz… you’d seen me, pass by.

What was the first thought that came to your mind when you saw the topic. Even if its 2 lines, write a poem or a stanza or a couplet, on the prompt. It would be great to read your version..

  1. If I were a cloud, I’ll hover above some people and make sure to ruin their best clothes on their special days😂😂😂
Also, that was so so beautiful my friend, I’m in no position to shower praises on this masterpiece since poetry has abandoned me from a very long time but that’s also the reason why I’m fascinated by the magical flow of words in poems like this one. ♥️ Congratulations on the certificate, you deserved it very very much my friend😄

    1. Haha…that’s being really naughty. Reminds me of the marble you put up your nose 🙂
Happy you liked the poem. You’re words are praise enough. Reading all your comments makes me feel like a cloud. I better get back on the ground:)

    1. Thank you Andrea. I have always been fascinated with clouds and funnily this was the chapter I most enjoyed in Geography in gr6. It all came back with the prompt. Enjoyed writing this poem.
