The prompt for the day is also inspired by McKibbens, who posted these thoughts on her Twitter account a few months back:
What do you deserve? Name it. All of it. What are you ready to let go of? Name that too. Then name the most gentle gift for yourself. Name the brightest song your body’s ever held. Summon joy like you would a child; call it home. It wanders, yes. But it’s still yours.
Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem of gifts and joy. What would you give yourself, if you could have anything? What would you give someone else?
My poem for today
If I could gift you anything
I would give you
a gift worthy of you
and one that I would want for me too!
If I could gift you anything
I would give you –
a cloud to float your troubles away,
and shower you with peace to last all day
I would give you-
a rainbow, bright and cheerful to tread on
and a box of the choicest blessings for every dawn.
If I could gift you anything
I would give you-
a map to end your strife and confusion
and a compass to reach your heart’s destination
I would give you-
an elixir to good health
and the magic potion to find your true wealth.
If I could gift you anything
I would give you-
a key to find your passion
and strength to make it happen
I would give you-
a steel of resolve to rise if you fall
and courage I’d breathe into your soul.
I’d wrap every gift
With care and a promise not to drift-
To be the ear when you need to talk
and if you ever falter, to be your rock.
A ribbon of strength I’d tie around,
Perfume it with faith unbound
And sign it off…with all my love.

It’s not often we think about gifts we would give ourselves, but these are wise and precious gifts to give ourselves and to others.

Yes…the prompts do make one think. Every year they’re so different, making me introspection. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had the power to gift ourselves and others these.
