Book Review: Roads A Journey With Verses

Received this lovely review from fellow blogger Kurian on my first poetry book – ‘Roads – A Journey with Verses’. Thank you Kurian for picking up the book and taking the time out to read it and write such a positive review.

Since the time the book got published, I’ve got increasingly disenchanted with writers’ groups on Facebook. Joining these groups only means increasing the number of ‘friends’ on Fb and increasing time spent on liking and commenting on post. It does not translate to any book sales. WordPress on the other hand is a more supportive community. There are so many who have gone out of the way to promote the book. It doesn’t matter if it actually meant more sales. I felt less lonely and less disillusioned on this journey.

I believe the feeling is the same for most writers – friends and family are the first you think of when you say the word ‘support’ but are really the last ones when it comes to book sales. Family blesses and moves on. While those blessings mean the world its’ not sales or reviews.

Friends congratulate and forget. And that doesnt taint friendship. That’s just the way it is.

These were the hard lessons that I learnt over the last 100 days. Yes its 100 days since the book got published. My co-author reminded me, today.

Other than wordpress, it’s people I’ve studied with or worked with who came forward and bought the book. Again these were just my classmates or colleagues. Not ‘friends.’ The strongest cheer came from my alma-mater. The college went all out to buy the books and gift it to homecoming students and in competitions conducted in college.

On the completion of 100 days, I want to say ‘Thank you’ to all those who read the book amidst their busy schedule and wrote a review.’ 🙏

A big ‘Thank you’ to those who promoted it on Instagram and Twitter.

To those who are yet to write a review, take your time. We want you to enjoy the book and not rush through it. But please know you’re review is highly appreciated and eagerly awaited.

I agree blogs are probably the most useful medium, Smitha, but I do get people linking through to my blogs from Facebook. having said that, all i do with Facebook generally is link my posts to it.

You would know since you’re the veteran in writing and publishing. Yes I’m going to limit myself to that too…just linking my posts. Thanks Mick for letting me know.

Your journey is the same one we all travel, Smitha. Friends and family are lovely for their blessings and encouragement but sales need to come from people who share your love of poetry, reading and writing. Keep going, dear. It is a wonderful path, full of personal reward.

It was new to me in the start and hurt. But now after reading the post shared by Sally – the writer interviews,I realized I’m not alone. Thanks Robbie for letting me know that its normal. Its encouraging. I had kind of gone to the lower end of the see-saw 😊. Thank you for being so,so supportive. I’m going to continue writing. Loads of love
