NaPoWriMo Day 30 – The way to my heart

And now for our final (still optional!) prompt. Today’s prompt is based on a prompt written by Jacqueline Saphra, and featured in this group of prompts published back in 2015 by The Poetry Society of the U.K. This prompt challenges you to write a poem in the form of a series of directions describing how a person should get to a particular place. It could be a real place, like your local park, or an imaginary or unreal place, like “the bottom of your heart,” or “where missing socks go.” Fill your poem with sensory details, and make them as wild or intimate as you like.

My poem for today is The way to my heart.

There is a straight path lined with trust bearing trees
It has no bumps but it is extremely long
Be prepared to drive or even walk along
The scent of calming chamomile blows in the breeze

At sixth mile, you'll reach a crossroad
The left is narrow, for those constrained of heart
The right, is the one you must chart
It allows for two-way traffic and shedding of load

It has yellow street-lights
that brighten with introspection,
and are powered by communication.
It's well-lit even on the darkest of nights

At the end of that road, is a jungle, deep and dense
You must cross it if you wish to reach
Just practice all that you preach
There's no need to be tense

Beware the shrubs of hypocrisy and creepers of lies,
Watch out for the carpet of envy and the betrayal ground
Don't tread over the gossip lying around
And whatever you do, don't wear a guise

Once you go past it, you'll come to a clearing
Where the air is light with acceptance
Friendship like daffodils stand in attendance
and the birdsong is a medley of laughter and cheering

In the corner of that meadow of lavender
Is a safe place- where you can put up your feet
without fear and at the fireplace take a seat
knowing with not an ounce of doubt that you matter

That safe place is my heart
If you want to reach it, you know where to start.

P.S. The poem is written after a close scrutiny of the directions and understanding of the hazardous conditions on the way. It opened up a sea of knowledge in understanding why so many people never end up reaching. Like someone rightly said, 'No friendship is an accident.' It takes time, effort and will to make it happen.

With this poem, NaPoWriMo 2021 is a wrap. I hope all you readers enjoyed reading the poems here as much as I enjoyed writing them. Thank you again to those who joined me on this journey, for this journey. Bye until next year.

For those who choose to stay, I will be posting poems in the month of May- the ones I wrote in April as per prompts provided by another group. So effectively, I was writing two poems every day. If you think I’m crazy, it’s alright for I’ve had the same thought several times during the month. Be ready then for another month of poems 🙂

Stay safe. Stay blessed.

Cheers,

SmithaV

Congratulations on completing the challenge Smitha. This is a good way to end with a thoughtful and insightful look into your heart 🙂

Thank you Andrea for sticking around to finish and cheering me on. It helped me get through this.
And for this ‘heart’ poem all I had to do was think of the people I don’t like and simply write it down. It was a good way to look within and come clean😀. Thank you again Andrea for sticking with me through this⚘

This is a beautiful poem, Smitha. A lovely way to end the 30-day challenge. Congratulations are doing so well.

Thank you so much Robbie. Please read poem for day 29. There is a sweet surprise in it and I want to share it with you.

        Sure, I’ll do that now.

    This… left me speechless!
It’s so beautifully written! So poetic. I had to reblog, because our poems share a title, and just that felt so funny, but then, yours is… stunning!
Thank you for sharing your words with us.
I’ll be glad to read your words next month. I too was taking part in two challenges, which is why I didn’t read as many poems as I should have/whished for. I was doing NaNoWriMo camp. I didn’t win, in the sense that I ‘only’ wrote 22,000 words for my novel, in addition to the 5,000 I wrote with my poems. I didn’t reach the 40k. But I wrote every day, and just this is a win for me 🙂
    See you around! XO

Your words made me smile🙂 and I went over to your blog and read your poem and it made me smile some more 😊. We wrote to the same topic and our thoughts ran together, yours more direct. Thank you so much for loving this poem and mostly for writing back and staying connected. I look forward to reading that novel of yours. I hope its a romantic story like your sweet poem. I’m going to be working on editing my book too…I do hope it sees the light of day. Maybe we can cheer each other on the journey. I think its amazing you were doing both poetry and novel writing together. I’m not sure if I could ever do that.
So glad we connected over NaPoWriMo. All the best to you Dawn🙂. See you.xxx

Yes, my words were very much direct, weren’t they? Maybe because the people they are addressed to need them so, whether the person I don’t like much or the one I very much do (though only one of them read the poem 😉 ).
If you visualise your book in your mind’s eye, then there is no reason why it shouldn’t see the light of day!
Mine was on my vision board for 2020. It didn’t quite happen then, but it will happen in the first half of 2021 if I have a choice.
My story is a romantic story, but it may not be quite as sweet as you expect, much more along the lines of erotic romance than anything else 😉
And of course we can cheer each other on the journey! I would love that! Please let’s stay connected! My email is dawnsnights at gmail dot com

Thanks Dawn for the tip to reach the finish line for the book. ‘Erotic’ romance is not my genre 🙂 but I wish you all the best that you not only complete it but the book finds its readers. And yes ! Let’s stay connected. XXX

Reblogged this on Dawn's Nights and commented:

Smitha too wrote a map to her heart. Hers is so much more poetic than mine, I have to reshare it.

    1. Smitha V Avatar

Thank you Dawn for the reshare. I’m so glad you liked the poem. I just had to think of all the people I didn’t like and why :). The answer was this poem😀

      1. Dawn D. McKenzie Avatar

Wow! This is you thinking of all the people you didn’t like? So beautiful!

        1. Smitha V Avatar

Yes 🙂 Funny right. How dislike can produce something like this. Thank you so much again for appreciating it.

A couple of outreaches hands 🙌 in the air. Well done and thank you for a great month and the beauty bof the day. I personally found it a harder year to find the time to write so feel the community of this April all the more for helping get me to the finish line as well. Hope and beauty we all need ….

    1. Smitha V Avatar

Thank you so much Dale🙌😊 for the good words and most importantly for reading my poetry. I can understand how it is to write under pressure. This year was easier for me fortunately or unfortunately for the lockdown that started after the first week of April. I’m so glad that despite being busy you did manage to reach the finish line. I will hop over to your blog to read your work. Thank you again.😊

    Congrats on the feature!
I missed some posts, I wasn’t keeping well the last week of April! I somehow wanted to finish it, didn’t want to quit.

    1. Smitha V Avatar

Yes it does and I’m glad it’s over :). Thank you again Deepa. Have enjoyed reading your comments and wondered what happened when I didn’t hear from you. I hope you’re feeling much better now. It’s awesome that you carried on despite being unwell. Take care. Hugs.

    Thanks for the encouragement here.
I’m following so I’ll see you around. 2 poems a day. Wow. All the best. I wish you miracles.

    1. Smitha V Avatar

Thanks Selma. I’ve already written the other poem. The challenge was happening side by side with NaPoWriMo so will just have to share it here :). That means I’m totally free in May. Hope you enjoy the poems.
It’s wonderful to be connected. You were one of the best finds this NaPoWriMo. Take care. Hugs.
