“Today’s prompt! Today, in honour of the potential luckiness of the number 13, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that, like the example poem here, joyfully states that “Everything is Going to Be Amazing.” Sometimes, good fortune can seem impossibly distant, but even if you can’t drum up the enthusiasm to write yourself a riotous pep talk, perhaps you can muse on the possibility of good things coming down the track. As they say, “the sun will come up tomorrow,” and if nothing else, this world offers us the persistent possibility of surprise.”
Today happens to be dad’s birthday. He would have been 82 had he been alive. There couldn’t have been a better prompt than this to celebrate his birthday and all that he taught me – essentially, not to cry over spilt milk- to bounce back stronger.
My poem for today, ‘You are blessed’
I want to write something today, that touches your soul, that inspires- that makes you smile Its tough some days, I know I find it tough too- doubt stifles, hope runs dry like arid land You have to dig hard, harder, deeper to find the fountain of faith. And when you do, hold it close- Like your favorite teddy The one you didn't let go of when you were little, and scared of monsters real or the ones in your head Today, remember, your first crush and how it made your heart race or the time you saw glow worms, and the wonder you felt. Or, the time you lingered to watch a ladybug make its way through towers of green grass. Remember, how its slow, steady pace held your heart And you stood transfixed Unable to pull away. Take it slow, today Be hypnotized by your inner voice It's there. Listen. It's what got you this far Let it warm you Inch by inch From your aching feet to the tips of your tingling fingers. To your heart- let it free, And your head. Breathe. Let every cell be charged with infinite strength Know that you are strong And you are blessed.

What a lovely tribute to uncle, Smi! I’m sure he must be happy knowing that you remember and are following his life lessons. He certainly is blessing you from above. Beautiful poem. Lots of love

Beautiful words and beautiful sentiments, Smitha. I love these lines: “Take it slow, today / Be hypnotized / by your inner voice // It’s there. Listen.” May we all listen!💜🍃

Welcome always dear Smitha 💖
Ahh, how beautiful, Smitha! It went down to my aching feet and I immediately felt better. 🙂 What a lovely glimpse of you as little and how you grew up into this fearless poet and artist that you are today, also thanks to your father. Marvellous!
Hey Manja, As always, your words made me smile🙂. You have such a knack of doing it. I grew fearless because of my dad and the discipline too. But from my mother came the art and the emotion. Thank you,Manja for telling me the poem did make you feel better🙂❤️. Hugs.
What I particularly like about this Smitha is the way you approached it – you could have written a light poem as if you were a cheerleader or a motivational speaker, but instead you went somewhere deeper – that teddy bear, that first awe from the natural world – this is a more profound version of a pep talk!
Thank you for your lovely comment, Andrea. I’m so glad you pointed those specifics out. I did not want to make it sound like a regular motivational piece. So, your saying it, feels good. Thank you!
A heartwarming and inspiring tribute to your father, Smitha! Eloquent! <3
